External cladding has just taken a new step with the introduction of Uni-Strut StoneClip, one that will benefit ALL that use it - Fixer, Architect, Engineer to the Contractor.

By using the Uni-Strut StoneClip 62mm x 41mm or 41mm x 41mm or 41mm x 21mm metal support system you can effect a cavity from 51mm to 165mm (x 2.5 mm wall thickness channel to be used) on any substrate that is being clad with any type of panel cladding (VITRA PANEL, STONE, WOOD, ALUMINIUM or any other medium of cladding) and in doing so you can eliminate the need to install Shelf Angles at each floor level, as the dead load is being supported by the individual StoneClips, which are attached to the channel and it is in turn fixed to the substrate at centres no greater than 500mm apart. By using the slotted channel it allows you to be able to place your fixings to suit not placing them in bed joints etc. When fixing to concrete substrate it is recommended that 8mm SCREW bolts be used, as these are very effective in loose substrates or where they are in question.

The Uni-Strut StoneClip comes in 2 sizes (12mm and 16mm) and are 150mm long with their own channel nuts, base plates and 2 lock nuts. The cavities are all allowing for an unsupported length of thread of 75mm on the 12mm StoneClips and 90mm on the 16mm StoneClips (the unsupported length is measured from the front of the blade of the StoneClip to the front of the lock nut against the channel, which is the same as the distance from the kerf in the panel being erected to the channel). See the Fixing Methods page for an explanation on how to achieve the desired joint and how to adhere to for correct installation.

Load limits on the Uni-Strut StoneClip should be kept to 45kgs/12mm clip at 75mm unsupported cavity per clip, up to 55kgs/16mm clip at 90mm unsupported cavity. This gives you a maximum cavity of up to 150mm with the 12mm StoneClip up to a maximum of 175mm for the 16mm StoneClip. These widths are when using the 62mm deep channel. Refer to your engineer if moving outside these guidelines. The placement of the Uni-Strut vertical channel placement is to suit the width of the panel with that you are using for the cladding medium.

Supplied with each Uni-Strut StoneClip:

  1. Threaded shaft with round 50mm x 2mm head and with 2 only lock nuts.

  2. Back nut to lock shaft into the Uni-Strut channel.

  3. Spacer washer 50mm x 22mm x 5mm  to stop compression of the rolled edge of the channel.

  4. Front flat washer 50mm x 50mm x 5mm, to support front of channel and base of lock nuts.

  5. 1 only - 8mm x 75 mm Screw Bolt with flat washer for each 500mm of Uni-Strut channel to fix to substrate = 13 per 6000mm length.

Benefits of using Uni-Strut StoneClip

  • working with an approved vertical support system.

  • allows fixing to solid parts of the substrate if slotted channel is used.

  • utilises the unique StoneClip mechanical fixing head.

  • works well with substrates that are not in PLUMB

  • no epoxy needed to fix your cladding panels to substrate only needed to effect the width of the joint between the panel courses.

  • allows greater productivity with the system as when you have one panel fixed you are immediately ready to fix the one above.
